Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate running mechanics while using new and old polyurethanes military boots in males with and without pronated feet. There were 15 patients in the pronated feet group, and the second group of 15 people as the healthy group. They received two new and used pair of boots. They were made of polyurethane. Ground reaction forces and muscle activities of the right leg were recorded during running. Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used for statistical analysis at a significance level of 0.05. Results demonstrated significant main effects of " boots type” for FZHC (P=0.018, d=0.183), FYPO (P=0.001, d=0.404), FXPO (P=0.008, d=0.225) and TTPmax FZ (P=0.028, d=0.161) during running. Results showed that significant main effects of “group" for TTP FYHC (P=0.001, d=0.969). Furthermore, Findings showed significant main effect of time for “group and boots" interaction for FYPO (P=0.009, d=0.219), FXHC (P=0.027, d=0.146) and TTP FXPO (P=0.004, d=0.264) during running. Also, findings showed significant main effect of boot type for semitendinosus (p=0.004, d=0.341) muscle activity during loading phase. Furthermore, significant main effect of group for biceps femoris (p=0.039, d= 0.196) muscle activity at loading phase, tibialis anterior (p=0.040, d=0.157) and gluteus medius (p=0.026, d=0.224) muscle activities at push-off phase during running. Findings showed significant main effect of boot-by-group interactions for vastus medialis (p=0.041, d=0.177) muscle activity at mid-stance phase during running. The results showed that the wearing new polyurethane boots may improve muscle function in people with pronated feet, which might enhance running performance.
