Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks core stability exercises on pain intensity and trunk muscle endurance in children and adolescents with non-specific low back pain. 30 girls (9-10 years old) and 30 girls (14-15 years old) were selected and randomly divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental groups participated in core stability exercises regularly for 8 weeks and the control group had no intervention, pain intensity and trunk muscle endurance were measured by Visual Analog Scale and McGill functional tests before and after the exercise period, Covariance statistical method was used to analyze the data. The results showed a significant decrease in pain intensity (p<0.001) and a significant increase in trunk endurance (p<0.001) in the experimental groups. There was no significant difference between children and adolescents in the effect of the exercise program on pain intensity, but a significant difference was observed in the trunk endurance between two groups (p<0.001), with a greater increase in the adolescents. According to the finding of this study, core stability exercises can be useful in reducing pain and increasing trunk muscle endurance in children and adolescents with non-specific low back pain. Therefore, it is recommended to use this exercise program in them.
