Abstract
Considering the prevalence of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears in sports maneuvers, including landings, as well as the importance of proper activation of the muscles around the knee in controlling forces applied to the joint, especially in female athletes, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of hamstring facilitation kinesiology taping on the electromyographic activity pattern of the knee muscles during single-leg landings in female athletes. Electromyographic data of the lower limb muscles were collected from 15 healthy female athletes during single-leg landing from a 30 cm high step, before and after performing hamstring facilitation kinesiology taping, with 70% stretch. The parameters obtained from the output of the force and electromyography device were entered into MATLAB 2023 and after checking the accuracy of the data, the information was processed. The mean, standard deviation and variance were used to describe the data. The normality of the data distribution was checked by the Shapiro-Wilk test and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test, by SPSS software version 27 at a significance level of P ≥ 0.05. In the results, there was no significant difference in the immediate effect of hamstring kinesiotaping on the electromyographic activity of the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, semitendinosus, biceps femoris, gluteus medius, and gastrocnemius lateralis muscles before and after taping. Therefore, the present study showed that hamstring facilitation kinesiotaping does not have a significant effect on the electromyographic activity of the knee muscles and cannot be effective in preventing ACL injury.
