Abstract
The aim of the present study was to compare lower extremity kinematic parameters between vertical landing and single leg lateral landing during net defense (blocking) in male novice volleyball players. This study employed a within subject quasi experimental design. Twelve male novice volleyball players (age:17.16±0.39years; height: 185.91±4.07cm; body mass: 70.25±5.86kg; vertical jump height: 53.67±4.21cm) participated in the study. Each participant performed two net defense tasks: an in place defense with a vertical landing, and a defense following a lateral displacement with a landing on the left foot. Three dimensional motion data were recorded using a Motion AnalysisRaptorH system at a sampling rate of120Hz, with thirteen reflective markers placed on selected anatomical landmarks of the lower extremity. The study variables included peak knee valgus, peak knee flexion, peak ankle inversion, eccentric knee angular velocity, and duration of the knee eccentric phase. A paired samples t test was used to compare the two conditions. The results showed that the single leg lateral landing, compared to the vertical landing, was associated with increased knee valgus, decreased knee flexion, increased ankle inversion, decreased eccentric knee angular velocity, and increased duration of the knee eccentric phase(P = 0.001). Based on these findings, the single leg lateral landing during net defense in male novice volleyball players creates a more challenging kinematic pattern for knee and ankle control. Therefore, specific lateral landing training, knee valgus control, increasing controlled knee flexion, and improving ankle control should be prioritized in technique training and injury prevention programs for novice players.
